DESCRIPTION:THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO\nNOTICE OF PUBLIC
  HEARING ON WAIVER APPLICATION\nPrior to the regular Chicago Board of Educ
 ation meeting\, a Public Hearing will be held at 9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. on 
 Thursday\, October 23\, 2025 at 42 W. Madison Street for a waiver applicat
 ion to allow Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students in kindergarten through
  8th grade to engage in a course of physical education for a minimum of 2 
 days per 5-day week instead of 3 days per 5-day week.\nCPS seeks to apply 
 for a waiver of Section 27-6 of the Illinois School Code\, which requires 
 that students engage in physical education for a minimum of 3 days per 5-d
 ay week (except for block scheduling and appropriate excuses). CPS policy 
 requires students in kindergarten through 8th grade engage in a course of 
 physical education for a minimum of 3 days per 5-day week for a minimum of
  120 minutes per week. CPS is proposing that students in kindergarten thro
 ugh 8th grade engage in 120 minutes of physical education over 2 days per 
 5-day week.\nFor this Public Hearing\, advance registration to speak will 
 be available beginning Tuesday\, October 21\, 2025 at 9:00 am and will clo
 se on Wednesday\, October 22\, 2025 at 9:00 am\, Anyone interested in spea
 king can sign up. After the 24-hour registration period\, a lottery will r
 andomly select a set number of speakers from those who registered. For exa
 mple\, if 100 people register\, the lottery might select 10 of them to spe
 ak. This process gives everyone a fair chance to address the Board. Advanc

 c Participation segment of the Public Hearing will conclude after the last
  person who has registered to speak has spoken\, or at 9:30 a.m. whichever
  occurs first. Staff members are encouraged to participate.\nTo ensure equ
 ity of access to address the Board\, an individual may not speak at back-t
 o-back meetings and more than one meeting per month. If you register for b
 ack-to-back meetings and more than one meeting per month\, you will not be
  included for that meeting lottery. In the event an individual registers t
 o speak at a consecutive meeting\, the individual will not be called to ad
 dress the Board. However\, if less than the allotted number of speakers re
 gister for a meeting\, the limitation on speaking at consecutive meetings 
 and/or more than once within a month will not apply\, and those previously
  ineligible to speak will be reinstated in the lottery and may be eligible
  to speak.\nMembers of the public may submit written comments related to t
 his waiver application via the Written Comments Form on the Board’s websit
 e at www.cpsboe.org or mailed to 42 West Madison\, Garden Level. Written c
 omments received between the day the public agenda is posted through 5 p.m
