DESCRIPTION:Prior to the Regular Board meeting a Public Hearing will be hel
 d at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday\, February 26\, 2014 in the Chicago Board of E
 ducation Board Chambers\, 125 S. Clark Street\, 5th Floor regarding the pr
 oposal to utilize President Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday as a day for studen
 t attendance\, parent-teacher conferences\, or teacher in-services or teac
 her institutes.  CPS seeks this holiday waiver pursuant to Section 24-2 of
  the School Code.  Per the School Code\, President Abraham Lincoln will be
  recognized through instructional activities conducted on that day or\, if
  the day is not used for student attendance\, on the school day preceding 
 or following that day. This request is being made so that the Board may us
 e President’s Day as a holiday instead of President Abraham Lincoln’s birt
 hday.  Testimony from educators\, parents and members of the public will b
 e heard during the public hearing.\nSpeaker registration will occur betwee
 n 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of the125 S. Clark Street building.
   The Public Participation portion of the Public Hearing will conclude aft
 er the last person who has signed in to speak has spoken\, or at 9:30 a.m.
  whichever occurs first.
